Door opening

A 'door opening' is the maximum width available to travel through when a door is open. Where there is a conventionally hinged door it should be measure from the edge of the open door to the door frame at its narrowest point. With other door types, the maximum available open width should be measured.

Which doors?

The measurement should only be applied to doors through which people will usually enter a room. If there is more than one door then the widest should be counted. Box rooms that are deep enough to enter and could contain a desk or single bed should be included.
